Shower Thoughts On Building Mass
There is little argument that volume builds mass. And I think one of the best mass building programs out there for beginners is mass made simple by Dan John, which includes a max attempt at 50 reps at 185lbs (weight dependent).
I’ve also gained most of my lean mass using high volume training. But, I think there are things to consider before jumping into high volume compound movements such as the Squat.
The Squat is a very technical move and because of that it takes a lot of concentration to ensure you don’t screw it up.
And most of us train without someone watching over our shoulders and a lot of us have less than stellar techniques.
So, while I think Mass Made Simple is great for progress. There is definitely a heightened risk of jacking yourself up in the process.
So, here is my proposal (mostly if I could tell my younger self). Find a coach, lock your squat technique down first, and in the meantime, break your volume down into sets not reps.
Then when you are ready to come to Jesus, give it a shot.
